Care-Alive’s Goals:
To provide support for individuals living with epilepsy; we derived the name “Care-Alive” from this objective – caring for those who live with epilepsy. We’ve established informal partnerships to help us achieve this goal: with Epilepsy Halton-Peel Region (we were the largest donor to their Sunny Days Kids Camp for 2010 and are planning even greater involvement for 2011) and with the Lions Dog Guide School (based in Oakville, Ontario) to both fund and raise awareness of seizure-response dogs.
To raise funds for research grants, not only into finding cures for this disorder, but also to those seeking to understand it better, and trying to develop better treatment options. We also have a strong interest in SUDEP and there is a separate part of the site dealing with it.
To educate the general public and to those either suffering from epilepsy, or to those who have a loved one with it. We will do this via booklets, media appearances and articles and through this site. We have a scientific advisory committee who will be guiding and assisting us.
To raise awareness of this disorder so that those witnessing a seizure will know what is happening and what to do. We are particularly interested in creating a better understanding of epilepsy within businesses, public services and the educational system so they can be more sensitive to the needs of those of epilepsy and be better equipped to help them physically and emotionally. Epileptics should not be forced to keep their condition a secret or feel any sense of shame or stigma and we strive to make that a reality.
