SUNNY DAYS KIDS CAMP

First Day of Sunny Days Kids CampFirst Day of Camp!

Care-Alive is proud to announce that we are sponsoring Epilepsy Halton Peel Hamilton’s Sunny Days Kids Camp in 2011. This year EHPH is excited to offer the Sunny Days Camp Program for children with Epilepsy and their siblings from ages 6-12.

The camp started July 5th with sessions running every week, with about 15 kids per session (there will be a few more kids per session in August). The kids are dropped off every morning at Lakefront Promenade Park; some days they stay in the park and do arts and crafts, soccer, Olympic Games and have picnics and bbq’s in what is a truly beautiful setting.

They’ve also gone to the Ontario Science Center, Amazing Adventures, African Lion Safari, a Jays Game, Toronto Zoo and Panera Bread where they all learned about bread making, made their own pizzas and ate one or two goodies. They’ll be visiting some of those same spots again in August with different groups of campers as well Marineland and Wild Water Works. The camp will wrap-up on August 25th with a bbq for the all the campers from this summer.

ABOUT THE CAMP

More than half of all newly diagnosed patients with Epilepsy are children under the age of 16. Children and teenagers with epilepsy and their parents/caregivers often have special concerns, and require information and support to face the challenges of living with a seizure disorder.

Parents of children with epilepsy often have a difficult time finding camps and child care in the summer months as many facilities and staff are not equipped to support a child with a seizure disorder and do not allow them to attend.

Epilepsy Halton Peel Hamilton has a designated set of programs customized to meet the needs of youth, children and their families. Their assessment of the communities of Halton and Peel gave them numerous facts about parents feeling overwhelmed, unsupported and frustrated with finding programs, especially recreational programs, for their children and youth.

Sunny Days Camp gives these kids a chance to participate in a summertime ritual, let them have fun, and perhaps even more importantly, gave them a sense of freedom, in an environment that their parents know is safe.
